Samuel Crompton:
The bar is named for Samuel Crompton, an English inventor and pioneer of the spinning industry.  Crompton successfully invented the spinning mule in 1779. The creation of a machine that simultaneously drew out and gave the final twisting to the cotton fibers that fed into it, reproducing mechanically the actions of hand spinning, permitted large-scale manufacture of high-quality thread and yarn, and revolutionized the garment industry worldwide.
