Legendary NYC newspaperman & cartoonist Bill Gallo has passed away. He is well known among NY Daily News readers for his sports columns and cartoons, including “Basement Bertha”, “General Von Steingrabber” and “Yuchi”.
He was a long-time regular at Gallagher’s Steakhouse, often hosting gatherings for “Gallo’s Geezers”. He is immortalized on their mural “Canvas of Stars“.
Through his involvement with the National Cartoonists Society, Gallo was instrumental in creating the “Cartoon Walls” at Overlook.
Both the original wall (above), created when it was Costello’s, and second cartoon wall (below) that the owners of Overlook created to match, are priceless murals, featuring famous cartoons hand drawn by the original cartoonists.
You can toast Bill Gallo at the Cartoon walls tonight at Overlook…
