Mardi Gras is the custom of power-loading your gluttonous behavior into one night before Ash Wednesday (hence the name Fat Tuesday). The first Mardi Gras in America was celebrated in Mobile, Alabama (then the capital of French Louisiana). New Orleans has become known as the capital of Mardi Gras, but if you can’t make it to The Big Easy, you can catch the New Orleans flavor, party atmosphere or live jazz right here in NYC. The actual Fat Tuesday is Tues., March 4, but the parties have already started. Below are some party suggestions. Facebook users, check out our Mardi Gras flyer gallery. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Mardi Gras at Bourbon Street on Restaurant Row
Every day is Mardi Gras at Bourbon Street Bar & Grille, but they kick it up a notch for the real thing, and add Gambino’s king cake, live boiled crawfish, and traditional muffelettas to their menu.
