Darryl was a huge star for the Mets in the 1980s, and also a star for the Yankees in the 1990s. He played 17 seasons in the majors, hitting 335 HRs and driving in 1,000 runs. The #1 pick in the 1980 amateur draft, he spent his first 8 seasons with the Mets, winning the World Series in 1986. He finished his career back in NY, playing his final 5 seasons his career with the Yankees, appearing in 231 games, winning the World Series in 1996, 1998 and 1999 while also beating cancer.
He currently is co-owner of Strawberry’s Grill in Douglaston, while also fighting autism through his Darryl Strawberry Foundation.
For a little fun at Darryl’s expense, eighties-era satirical publication Spy Magazine featured Darryl in their “Separated at Birth” feature, calling the Flintstone’s Dino a troublesome pet, and Darryl a “troublesome Met”.
