New York City has a long history of brewing beer, dating back to colonial times. Over the centuries, as the industry changed, eventually all breweries in New York City closed, but began returning in the 1980s with beer pioneers such as Brooklyn Brewery. Today, craft beer is booming in NYC, with dozens of new craft breweries opening in the past decade.
