Bloom’s Day in NYC

jamesjoyceBloomsday commemorates James Joyce’s epic novel, Ulysses* and the exploits of the main character, Leopold Bloom. It is celebrated worldwide on June 16, the anniversary Bloom’s journey through Dublin on that day in 1904.


While it originated in Dublin, New York City is among many cities around the world that be holding Bloomsday observances. Literary New Yorkers have several options in celebrating the 110th anniversary of Bloom’s Day:

Bloom’s Day on Broadway

The 33rd annual Bloomsday on Broadway celebrates 110 years of James Joyce’s Dubliners and his masterpiece Ulysses. The event will feature readings by Cynthia Nixon, Malachy McCourt, Kelli O’Hara, National Book Award-winning author Colum McCann, and others of several of the book’s stellar stories, including the beloved final story “The Dead.” Between readings, songs from the stories will be performed by soprano Lisa Flanagan. Introductions by Irish writer Belinda McKeon.
