Maggie’s Place 45th Anniversary

maggie_of_maggiesplaceCongratulations and happy 45th anniversary to the Whelan family on the anniversary of their Irish restaurant & bar, Maggie’s Place.

Maggie’s Place, one of the oldest family run restaurants in the midtown area, opened in 1974 by Teddy and Maggie Whelan, originally from Dublin, Ireland.  In the late 1990s, their son Martin took over,  and was later joined by his late brother Mark.

Martin completely renovated the restaurant, and Mark, an alum of Culinary Institute of America, helped completely revamp the menu.  Maggie’s Place served as a launching pad of sorts, as Martin, Mark and their partners went on to open several other popular and successful NYC venues, including Stout, The Half Pint, Amity Hall, The Long Room, Feile, One Mile House, & The Independent.

Despite the nightlife empire it helped to launch, Maggie’s Place continues to be run like a “mom and pop” business, with the hospitality of which the Irish are world renowned. The main floor features a long bar that serves regulars from the midtown business community. The upstairs features a dining room and is also available for private parties.
