Foley’s 10th Anniversary

foleysCongratulations & happy anniversary to our friend Shaun Clancy on the 10th anniversary of Foley’s.

Foley’s opened in 2004 in the former P.G. King’s, right across the street from the Empire State Building on W. 33rd St.  It has earned its reputation as one of the top sports bars in New York, and boasts one of the finest public collections of baseball memorabilia collections outside of Cooperstown.  Practically every square inch of wall space is adorned with signed jerseys, photos, posters, over 2,000 signed baseballs and 500 bobbleheands, seats from Fenway Park, Tiger Stadium and Camden Yards, plus any other kind of sports memorabilia you can think of.

irish-american-baseball-hall-of-fameClancy, from Co. Cavan, Ireland, fancies Foley’s as an Irish bar with a baseball attitude. Foley’s itself was in fact named in honor of legendary Irish-American baseball writer Red Foley, and it is the birthplace of the Irish-American Baseball Hall of Fame, which such inductees as Tug McGraw, Walter O’Malley, Tim McCarver, Vin Scully, Paul O’Neill, Nolan Ryan, Steve Garvey, Gene Michael, Jeff Nelson and more.  Proprietor Shaun Clancy is also the founder and president of the hall, which inducts new members each year.

The space at 18 W. 33rd St. has been a restaurant or bars since at least 1913, and was of course a speakeasy during prohibition.  The men’s room holds massive porcelain urinals that were once in the original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

Check out a 360 degree tour of Foley’s in this short video below:

Tonight, they are celebrating 10 years with a “party with a purpose”, which will raise funds for a little girl with big medical challenges.
