Tom McGrath, a world renowned long distance endurance runner, and owner of The Black Sheep Irish pub in New York City, will be running from his bar in Murray Hill to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland to raise funds and awareness for the proposed Monument to Commodore John Barry at The Barry Gate of the Naval Academy. The Commodore John Barry 250 Mile Run is being organized by The Ancient Order of Hibernians to raise awareness and funds to build a fitting memorial for the recognized father of the American Navy, Commodore John Barry.

The run will begin on Friday, July 20th at the Black Sheep and end on Saturday afternoon, July 28th at The Barry Gate at the U. S. Naval Academy.  Ultra-marathoner Tom McGrath will run 30 to 35 miles each day, with evening events en route in South Amboy NJ, Hamilton Square NJ, Philadelphia PA, Wilmington DE, Newark DE, Aberdeen MD, Baltimore MD and the Grand Finale at Annapolis MD.

Contributions can be made through Hibernian Charity – a 501-c3 organization, at the website: BarryRun.com.  All proceeds will be donated to building the Commodore Barry Gate at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

If you wish to meet Tom to wish him well and contribute in person, there are two opportunities in NYC before he heads south.  The first is on Thursday, July 19 at his pub, The Black Sheep.  The second will be a brunch on Friday at The Irish Haven in Brooklyn, sponsored by the Commodore John Barry Society of Brooklyn.
