Charla Lauriston returns to Brooklyn to work out a new hour of stand-up comedy about growing up Haitian in America in preparation to record her first comedy album at Sketchfest this January. Currently based in Los Angeles, Charla has been described as “Self-assured and gleefully sarcastic” (WNYC) and “One of the most exciting and original voices in comedy” (Splitsider). Hailing from New York by way of Boston by way of Haiti, Charla’s sharp observations on everything from family to race to pop culture and the absurd minutia of everyday life are delivered with a matter-of-fact punch to the gut. A tested comedy writer, Charla has written for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Comedy Central’s Why? W/ Hannibal Buress, TBS’ People of Earth, and FOX’s Ghosted. She’s appeared on The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail and has performed at festivals around the country. Her webseries ‘Clench and Release’ has been featured in Indie Wire, Paste Magazine, Bustle, Splitsider, WNYC, and Glamour Magazine listed it as a Web Series to Watch.
